Perforated / Slotted / Grooved Plates

This page covers quartz plate with machined features — holes, slots, or grooves — added to a base plate. The purchasing driver is the feature geometry (hole diameter, slot width, pitch, pattern) layered onto the plate dimensions from Quartz Plates & Sheets.

Hole / Slot Dimensions

Parameter Range
Minimum hole diameter (laser drilled) ~0.3 – 0.5 mm practical minimum on quartz plate
Plate thickness (with drilled holes) As thin as ~0.1 mm (thinner plates are more difficult to drill reliably)
Hole position accuracy High positional accuracy achievable with laser drilling; tighter pitch and smaller holes possible without sacrificing accuracy
Slot width Per drawing, laser or CNC processed
Pitch Per drawing

Processing Method

  • Laser drilling — non-contact, precise hole creation, suited to thin plates and fine hole diameters; minimizes mechanical stress on the surrounding material
  • CNC machining — for slots, larger features, and complex multi-feature patterns
  • Multiple holes on a single plate: achievable, but ensuring every hole stays intact through the process gets harder as hole count and plate thinness both increase — this is a real yield tradeoff, confirm feasibility with your specific pattern

Application

  • Semiconductor equipment fixtures — guide plates, probe plates, gas distribution plates
  • Custom perforation patterns for filtration, alignment, or gas/fluid flow through a flat quartz component

Material

Standard clear fused quartz or JGS1/JGS2 optical grade, per drawing — same material options as Quartz Plates & Sheets.

FAQ

What’s the smallest hole diameter you can drill in quartz plate?

Around 0.3–0.5mm is the practical minimum for reliable laser-drilled holes in quartz plate; thinner plate and larger hole counts both add difficulty.

Can grooves and holes be combined on the same plate?

Yes, per drawing — specify all feature types, positions, and dimensions together on one drawing for a complete quote.

How thin can a perforated quartz plate be?

Down to roughly 0.1mm has been achieved, but thinner plates are both harder to drill without breakage and harder to keep multiple holes intact simultaneously — confirm your specific thickness/hole-count combination.
