Answers first, assumptions visible

Each calculator shows the inputs and assumptions behind its result. Geometry and weight tools are suitable for estimating. Pressure and window results are engineering screening values only: fused quartz is brittle, and real capability depends on surface condition, fabrication, thermal history, mounting, seals and stress concentration.

Calculator 01

Quartz Tube Dimension Calculator

Enter any two of OD, ID and wall thickness. Add length to calculate areas, volumes and estimated weight.

Your calculated tube specification

OD / ID / Wall—

Calculator 02

Quartz Glass Weight Calculator

Estimate volume and weight for tubes, rods, plates, discs, rings and blocks using 2.20 g/cm³ nominal density.

Estimated material quantity

Shape—
Volume—
Estimated weight—
Density used2.20 g/cm³
Weight is an estimate from nominal density and ideal geometry. Machining, fire polishing, tolerances and fused joints can change the finished weight.
Calculator 03

Quartz Tube Pressure Screening Calculator

Uses thick-cylinder Lamé stress at the inner wall for an initial internal-pressure screen.

Pressure screening result

Calculated inner-wall hoop stress—
Effective allowable stress—
Maximum calculated pressure—
Calculated minimum wall—
Engineering screening only. This result is not a pressure rating or safety guarantee. Surface damage, ports, end loads, sealing force, thermal gradients, cyclic loading and assembly stresses are not included. Final design requires qualified engineering review and proof testing.
Calculator 04

Quartz Window / Disc Thickness Calculator

Estimates minimum thickness from unsupported span, differential pressure, mounting assumption and user-defined screening stress.

Window screening result

Pressure differential—
Calculated minimum thickness—
Suggested manufacturing thickness—
Model—
Engineering screening only. The model uses simplified plate-stress coefficients. Rectangular results use a conservative equivalent-span approximation. Edge quality, seal geometry, preload, scratches, thermal stress and shock are not included.

Quartz Thermal Expansion Calculator

Calculates linear movement using an average coefficient of thermal expansion over the entered temperature range.

Thermal movement

Temperature change—
Length change ΔL—
Final length—
Average CTE used—
The listed coefficients are nominal screening values, not a full temperature-dependent α(T) curve. Use a project-specific average CTE or verified material data for critical designs.

Differential Thermal Expansion Calculator

Compares quartz movement with a second material across the same temperature change.

Differential movement

Quartz expansion—
Second-material expansion—
Differential expansion—
Temperature change—
This tool calculates free thermal movement only. It does not calculate seal stress, joint stress or whether a quartz-to-metal assembly is safe.

Helix geometry

Centerline diameter—
Overall coil height—
Helix centerline length—
Total straight tube length—
The result is ideal centerline geometry. Forming trials, bend radius, end orientation, spring-back and fabrication allowance require manufacturing review.

Fused Silica Optical Calculator

Calculates refractive index from the Malitson Sellmeier equation, Fresnel reflection and optical path length.

Uncoated fused-silica result

Refractive index n—
Single-surface reflectance—
Two-surface reflection loss—
Optical path length—
Valid for ideal uncoated fused silica within the Sellmeier model range shown. Absorption, coatings, surface roughness, multiple-beam interference and material-grade variation are not included.

Calculation basis and limitations

  • Tube geometry and weight use ideal geometric formulas and nominal fused-quartz density of 2.20 g/cm³.
  • Pressure and window calculations are simplified engineering screens; they are not certified ratings.
  • Thermal calculators use the average CTE entered by the user. Temperature-dependent material data should be used for critical designs.
  • Optical index uses the Malitson fused-silica Sellmeier coefficients over 0.21–3.71 µm.
  • Page organization follows the practical “answers, assumptions, matching product, straight to quote” pattern of Engineering Hardware’s calculator collection.
