Quartz Glass supplies quartz tubing selected by material grade for UV lamp and process applications — the grade determines how much UV actually reaches your target, and whether the tube generates ozone as a byproduct.
Dimensions above are typical for lamp and process tubing; material grade, OH content, and transmission figures depend on the specific quartz stock used and are confirmed against a real datasheet at quote time rather than quoted generically here.
Ozone-Generating vs. Ozone-Free Quartz Tubing
Quartz that transmits UV around 185 nm generates ozone, because that wavelength splits atmospheric oxygen. Quartz formulated to block roughly that region — while still passing 254 nm — is sold as ozone-free. Which one you need depends on the application: ozone-generating tubing is specified when ozone is the point (air or water treatment), and ozone-free is specified when it's a byproduct to avoid (most general germicidal or curing lamps in occupied or enclosed spaces).
Tell us which output you need — 185 nm, 254 nm, or both — and we'll confirm which grade applies.
UV Transmission, Cutoff Wavelength and Material Grade
OH content in the quartz is the main variable behind deep-UV transmission — generally, higher-OH synthetic material transmits further into the deep UV than lower-OH or natural quartz, though the exact cutoff depends on the specific melt and grade. Rather than publish a generic transmission curve here, Quartz Glass confirms cutoff wavelength and transmission at your operating wavelength against the actual material grade sourced for your order.
UV Quartz Tube Factory Standard & Manufacturing Limit
Material grade also limits which OD, wall, and length combinations are available — not every grade comes in every stock size, so grade and dimensions are confirmed together, not separately. See the table above for typical dimensional range; send your required wavelength and grade so we can confirm what applies.
Tube Diameter, Wall Thickness and Lamp Geometry
Tube OD and wall are usually set by the lamp or fixture the tube fits into, not chosen independently — confirm your lamp type or fixture drawing alongside the dimensions. End finishing for lamp tubes typically means fire-polished open ends or a pinch-sealed end for lamp assembly; tell us which your design needs.
Before shipment we check dimensions, wall thickness, appearance, end condition, and — where provided — material batch or grade documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ozone-generating and ozone-free quartz?
Ozone-generating designs require transmission near 185 nm. Ozone-free titanium-doped quartz suppresses that region while retaining the required output around 254 nm.
Which dimensions are common for UV lamp tubes?
Reference lamp sizes use OD 8–60 mm and walls around 1–2 mm; the selected UV grade may have a narrower raw-tube range.
Can UV tubes be closed or made as immersion sleeves?
Yes. Tubes can be cut, closed, fire-polished, flanged or welded into protective sleeves and reactor assemblies.
How is the UV grade verified?
Material identity and wavelength requirement are specified with the order so the finished geometry remains traceable to the selected raw-tube grade.
Grade-Qualified Material Purity
Electric-fused / flame-fused quartz: SiO₂ ≥99.99%; synthetic JGS1-grade fused silica: ≥99.999%. Grade and lot certificate govern supplied material.
Formed Stock versus Cold-Cut Dimensions
Formed stock and finished cut parts use different length tolerances. Continuously drawn transparent stock: ±1.0 mm at OD ≤50 mm / ±2.0 mm at OD >50 mm. Rotationally fused opaque stock: ±5.0 mm. Cold-cut finished parts: standard ±0.5 mm; precision ±0.1 mm only where agreed for the finished geometry.
